About TheRiA

The focus of TheRiA’s activities lies in the comprehensive advice and support of original rights holders (associations, leagues, organizers, clubs, athletes etc.) and rights users (TV channels, online platforms, sponsors, agencies etc.) in the best possible development, use and exploitation of their commercial rights (in particular media and marketing rights as well as associated production rights and obligations).

How we work

TheRiA stands for independency, customer orientation and target focus.
We offer our clients independent, neutral advice. We are very well connected but do neither acquire any rights ourselves nor are we obligated to any third party. We adjust our role to our client’s needs and interests. We take over the entire project management as external service provider (e. g. “outsourced media rights department”) or provide support in selected sub-areas only.
We take over the entire process of marketing the client’s rights (market approach, rights packaging, tendering, contract negotiations etc.) or work solely in the background as strategic consultant.
We are fast, discreet and reliable and offer our clients efficient, pragmatic advice – focused on the jointly defined goals and the best possible way to achieve them.

Who we are

Mark Deckelmann and Clemens Oehler are the two founders and managing partners of TheRiA. After more than 40 years of working and consulting experience in almost all industry-relevant areas (associations, leagues, clubs, athletes, TV stations, online/OTT platforms, agencies, production service providers, law firms) and a variety of sports (football, ice hockey, skiing, biathlon, tennis, athletics, handball, basketball, volleyball, cycling, motor sports, martial arts), we not only know the needs and challenges of our clients (and their respective contractors), but also dispose of the relevant experience and know-how as well as a broad international network within the entire industry.

Team

Mark Deckelmann, born in 1976, is a trained lawyer and began his career in the sports industry with stints at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) and in law firms in London and Switzerland. In 2005, he joined a Munich sports law boutique before joining Profile Partners as General Counsel in 2011. In 2019 he founded TheRiA together with Clemens.

Clemens Oehler, born in 1964, has a degree in economics and has been working in the sports media industry since 1998; he started at the Internationale Sportrechte-Verwertungs GmbH (ISPR) as commercial director. In 2004, he moved to the German free TV sports broadcaster DSF (Deutsches SportFernsehen, later Sport1) as commercial director. In 2006 he joined Profile Partners as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer before founding TheRiA together with Mark.
